Kimberly:

Greetings, and welcome to this latest episode of The Women of Rock.

Kimberly:

I'm one of your hosts, Kimberly.

Kimberly:

Hi, I'm Tammy.

Kimberly:

Hey, and our channel is all about the goings on in the world of rock.

Kimberly:

So remember to like, subscribe, and hit that notifications button.

Kimberly:

So you don't miss a single thing.

Kimberly:

We have some great reporting coming out of the Crowded House tour.

Kimberly:

Our girl Tammy t was right there with it.

Kimberly:

Tammy, how was

Tammy:

the show?

Tammy:

It was awesome.

Tammy:

I, you know, it's funny because I didn't even know they were touring.

Tammy:

I found out about a week ago, a week before the concert, uh, Through a

Tammy:

Facebook ad that came across my feed.

Tammy:

So sometimes the Facebook ads are good, um, sometimes, but I saw

Tammy:

that it was playing in my area and just totally grabbed a ticket

Tammy:

and, um, was so excited to go.

Tammy:

So it was, it was an awesome show.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

And you know, this is the second on the ground reporting from the, from

Kimberly:

the con, the hot concert, uh, tour.

Kimberly:

So our first episode was Depeche Mode.

Kimberly:

You can go back and check that out.

Kimberly:

And we're super excited to hear more about Crowded House.

Kimberly:

I know that there's a huge crowded house fan base.

Tammy:

I believe their North American tour was scheduled for, I think it was,

Tammy:

let's see what we're in the spring.

Tammy:

Spring 2023, I think it was for fall 2022.

Tammy:

And it got postponed, I believe, due to, the drummer I think

Tammy:

needing surgery or something.

Tammy:

So anyway, I haven't seen a whole lot of advertising other than the Facebook.

Tammy:

The Facebook ad that I got, I hadn't really heard about it, but it is going on

Tammy:

through, I think maybe even through June.

Tammy:

So if it comes to your area, definitely check it out, but I'll give you more

Tammy:

details as we, as we go through the show.

Tammy:

Awesome.

Tammy:

And

Kimberly:

where did you catch

Tammy:

the show?

Tammy:

I.

Tammy:

So it was in Mesa, Arizona, and so it's close to the Phoenix area,

Tammy:

and it's at a, it was at a theater called, the Mesa Arts Center.

Tammy:

I think it's the, I, I, theater don't know if I'm saying that right.

Tammy:

It's the first time I had ever been there.

Tammy:

Actually didn't even know it existed.

Tammy:

So, uh, they do a lot of, uh, plays and shows and that kind of thing.

Tammy:

So, Looking at the venue, I knew it was probably gonna be a small, intimate show.

Tammy:

And also, that it was probably gonna be mellow given the, that it's at a

Tammy:

theater and just given a crowded house.

Tammy:

I kind of figured, you know, this will probably be a mellow show.

Tammy:

I don't think anybody's gonna be standing up, uh, rocking out or anything like that.

Tammy:

And that's okay.

Tammy:

So I, I had myself prepared of, okay, it's gonna be, it's on a Wednesday night.

Tammy:

Be a mellow show.

Tammy:

I'm gonna buy a ticket, you know, up in the mezzanine level.

Tammy:

I figured it's, since it's a small theater, I could probably

Tammy:

get a good seat anywhere.

Tammy:

So I thought I, and I've said things on the show before about, you know,

Tammy:

if I wanna stand up to a song and.

Tammy:

Um, people behind me are yelling at me to sit down.

Tammy:

I really hate that.

Tammy:

So I thought, well, I'm gonna sit on the mezzanine level toward the back.

Tammy:

There weren't that many rows in the mezzanine level, so I sat in the back

Tammy:

with no one behind me intentionally so I could stand up if I wanted

Tammy:

to, and nobody would yell at me.

Tammy:

Sit down.

Tammy:

So I didn't.

Tammy:

Even stand up until the end.

Tammy:

but it was, it was great.

Tammy:

It was, it was a great, mellow, but very, entertaining and, I

Tammy:

wouldn't say it was nostalgic.

Tammy:

It was, it was a lot of their new material.

Tammy:

So it was just, Just great.

Tammy:

Just a great show.

Kimberly:

Awesome, And I know for people who are, familiar with Crat House,

Kimberly:

they're gonna know their big song.

Kimberly:

You know, don't dream it's over.

Kimberly:

and I think this tour is called, dreamers Are Waiting.

Kimberly:

Is that, is that correct?

Kimberly:

Or their album is Dreamers Are Waiting

Tammy:

So that's their new album.

Tammy:

I.

Tammy:

Must have came out in 20 22, 20 21, 20 22.

Tammy:

cause I think this is the tail end of their tour.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

If I'm not mistaken.

Tammy:

So, um, so Cared, house has been around for a while.

Tammy:

They've been on several hiatus and, and were very successful in the

Tammy:

late eighties, um, and nineties.

Tammy:

So I wasn't sure what to expect.

Tammy:

I thought, you know, I'm a huge Neil Finn fan.

Tammy:

I'm a huge split ends fan, so I was just ho and I, and I'm a huge credit house fan,

Tammy:

but I haven't really followed their music.

Tammy:

In the last 15 years, I don't know how much they have released.

Tammy:

I'm not even sure that it's been that much.

Tammy:

And I wasn't aware of their new album, but I just thought, I love Neil Finn

Tammy:

and it was a bucket list thing for me to see him and crowded a house.

Tammy:

So I was going, no matter what did I, I don't typically do much

Tammy:

research before I go to a show cuz I just wanna go in kind of blind.

Tammy:

I just wanna experience it.

Tammy:

I just wanna see, um, especially with some of the bands that have been around

Tammy:

a long time, I have no idea what to expect, so I don't wanna, I don't look

Tammy:

at reviews, I don't look at anything.

Tammy:

I just go, so that's, and then when I, after I experience it, then I kind of

Tammy:

start reading reviews and see, and, and checking out their, their newer music.

Tammy:

And so that's what I did this time and I was, well, not pleasantly surprised, but.

Tammy:

Really kind of blown away by Neil Finn's voice is, it sounds

Tammy:

exactly the same as it did.

Tammy:

Wow.

Tammy:

He's 64 and his voice, I mean, my God, and just, His musicianship and

Tammy:

stage presidents and everything.

Tammy:

And very quickly, I, so let me start, start from the beginning.

Tammy:

the opener was Liam Finn and Liam Finn is Neil Finn's son.

Tammy:

And so I, I kind of knew that before, but I said, oh, okay, the opener's

Tammy:

Liam Finn, I bet that is Neil's son again, didn't do a lot of research,

Tammy:

but just sort of assumed and.

Tammy:

Liam Finn is freaking awesome.

Tammy:

Like, okay, so he's 39.

Tammy:

You know, I, I think, oh, look at that kid.

Tammy:

But he is like 39.

Tammy:

he comes out and he's doing a one man show wearing this.

Tammy:

Red looks like a circusy kind of short jacket and red pants.

Tammy:

And he is gotten a setup around him of, microphone, guitar,

Tammy:

drums, and he's just out there.

Tammy:

But he introduces himself over like the microphone, welcome, this

Tammy:

is, uh, and now it's Liam Finn.

Tammy:

And, and it's literally him, saying it and walking out.

Tammy:

Wow.

Tammy:

And I think he only.

Tammy:

Perform maybe 30 minutes, maybe you know, a handful of songs,

Tammy:

but was so freaking entertaining.

Tammy:

I'm like, just animated, and I'm like, man, what I was thinking

Tammy:

was like, man, this kid has balls.

Tammy:

He's 39 years old.

Tammy:

I mean, just.

Tammy:

His, he just was so outgoing and so, entertaining and talking to the audience

Tammy:

and then just randomly just, just playing.

Tammy:

I mean, I think some, a few of the songs were, were his songs.

Tammy:

He's gotten, CDs out in that kind of thing.

Tammy:

But he would just start playing and just go to different

Tammy:

instruments and I'm just like, wow.

Tammy:

And he sounds so much like his dad.

Tammy:

Oh, wow.

Tammy:

Like there's that, there's that tone in his voice.

Tammy:

That I'm like, oh yeah, that's, that's definitely his son.

Tammy:

So it was really, really cool.

Tammy:

The crowd loved him.

Tammy:

I loved him.

Tammy:

You know, we're, oh, and, and by the way, the crowd.

Tammy:

You know, it's an old, it's an older crowd.

Tammy:

I'm old, it was older than me.

Tammy:

And, and that was okay.

Tammy:

So it was mellow, but it was so fun.

Tammy:

It just really casual, mellow crowd.

Tammy:

And I was thinking, Hmm, this is gonna be interesting.

Tammy:

And, so when I sat down, I heard somebody, an older gentleman, again, I'm old,

Tammy:

older than me, not that old, whatever.

Tammy:

Um, and he, and he said, wow, this is really an older crowd.

Tammy:

And the person, oh really?

Tammy:

The person he was with goes, you mean like us?

Tammy:

And I'm like, like, I just started laughing too.

Tammy:

I'm like, yep, that's, that's pretty much it.

Kimberly:

Well, when you.

Kimberly:

Well, when you do the math, I mean, they were big.

Kimberly:

What?

Kimberly:

It was the eighties, right?

Kimberly:

Eighties.

Tammy:

Early eighties.

Tammy:

Early eighties.

Tammy:

Like 79 I think.

Tammy:

Split in.

Tammy:

Wow.

Tammy:

Or like, I wanna say 79 to early eighties.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

So, yeah, long time ago.

Kimberly:

Long time ago.

Kimberly:

So we're their, we're their fan base.

Kimberly:

And, uh, we're getting older, but we're still going out.

Kimberly:

Right?

Kimberly:

Yeah.

Tammy:

But we're still going out.

Tammy:

So it, it was cool like, It's, it's not a show, it's not a nostalgic show is.

Tammy:

So, when Crowded House came on, um, and again, I didn't do any research, so I

Tammy:

quickly figured out, oh, and they were talking to the audience quite a bit.

Tammy:

Neil Fan was addressing the audience and, you know, chatting in between songs and.

Tammy:

Very personable and, and I, I realized very quickly that his son, Liam, one man

Tammy:

show is the guitarist in the band and.

Tammy:

The harmonies between Neil and his son, like, my God, it, it's just stunning

Tammy:

because their, their tones are so alike, and that was just absolutely mesmerizing.

Tammy:

And then, Uh, I quickly figured out that his other son, Elroy, is the drummer.

Tammy:

And so after the show when I came home and did some research, I'm like, oh, okay, so

Tammy:

this is like a total family affair, right?

Tammy:

And, and what's so cool about it is, as a huge Neil fan, fan myself, to see

Tammy:

how freaking talented his family is.

Tammy:

And I just kept imagining like, God, what was it like growing up in that house?

Tammy:

Right.

Tammy:

You know, I bet there was just music.

Tammy:

I bet they were jamming together, and for all that talent.

Tammy:

And now, now to be able to tour with his sons and them to be so

Tammy:

good and so musical and so talented.

Tammy:

And I think they've got their own individual bands and have released music

Tammy:

on their own and that kind of thing.

Tammy:

But, um, it was just incredible.

Tammy:

So that's for me, what made the show so incredible.

Tammy:

And it was a, they didn't really play the hits, so to speak.

Tammy:

They played a few hits here and there.

Tammy:

It was 20 songs.

Tammy:

It was over two hours.

Tammy:

So, but it was, Just a lot of really good musicianship.

Tammy:

I didn't recognize a lot of the songs, a a few here and there, and I was

Tammy:

wondering, I, I really enjoyed it, but I was watching the crowd and I was thinking,

Tammy:

I wonder if this is the kind of crowd that's gonna be pissed that they're

Tammy:

not playing the hits Play-Doh songs.

Tammy:

Where are you gonna play those songs?

Tammy:

And there was a guy next to me in the mezzanine level, um, on

Tammy:

his Kindle, like, you know, like reading something on his Kindle and

Tammy:

then left about, not even halfway

Kimberly:

through, are you reading Warren Peace during this concert?

Kimberly:

What are you doing?

Kimberly:

Right?

Tammy:

I dunno.

Tammy:

So I'm like, oh, we lost one.

Tammy:

So I, but I didn't see anybody else.

Tammy:

I saw some people leaving toward the end, which is a real shame because at the end,

Tammy:

Is when they played a lot of the hits.

Tammy:

They did this medley, like when they came out for the encore, they did this medley

Tammy:

of, split ends and my favorite songs from Split Ends and, some of their other songs.

Tammy:

And I'm like, and everybody was up and clapping and, singing and

Tammy:

dancing and like, in some ways that was the highlight of the show.

Tammy:

And so if you stuck it out for the two hours, You, you saw all

Tammy:

that you wanted to go, you know, see the hits, um, and you left.

Tammy:

You really missed out.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

well, you know, the hats off to them because we talked about this

Kimberly:

when we were reviewing the Depeche Mode concert and you know, people wanting

Kimberly:

to just hear those songs that they are familiar with and I think, I think that's

Kimberly:

a really smart move for these bands.

Kimberly:

It's like, show off all your talents.

Kimberly:

I didn't know, cause I watched clips of the show.

Kimberly:

I didn't know that Nil Finn played a piano and keyboard.

Kimberly:

I thought he was mainly a guitar player.

Kimberly:

So that was really nice to see.

Kimberly:

Yeah.

Tammy:

Yeah, super, super musical family.

Tammy:

Super talented family.

Tammy:

Um, and the thing is, is I thought about this a lot and I thought about this from

Tammy:

our Depeche mode, uh, recap or, or review.

Tammy:

And that's, I guess that's what I was thinking of when I was.

Tammy:

Listening to All these songs that I didn't know but was really enjoying,

Tammy:

I, I was really thinking, is this the kind of crowd that's gonna be into this?

Tammy:

Or is this the kind of crowd?

Tammy:

So, and I, and I was thinking too, like there's some, there's some bands,

Tammy:

you know, like a Def Leopard, even Motley Cru for that matter, that will

Tammy:

tour and they're playing the hits.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

They're playing the hits.

Tammy:

They're playing the hits, and it's almost like, A tribute show.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

You know, I'm sorry, but they're not really releasing new, new music.

Tammy:

It's, we're gonna go play the hits.

Tammy:

We're gonna have some fun.

Tammy:

People are gonna love it.

Tammy:

And that's that.

Tammy:

And that's okay.

Kimberly:

That's a choice.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

That's a choice.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

These kinds of concerts, like a Depeche Mode or, or Credit house, they are,

Tammy:

I'm not saying that Def Leppard and Marley Crew are not artists, cuz

Tammy:

they are artists, but, there's a level of musicianship with someone,

Tammy:

like a crowded house or even even Depeche mode, and that, they're not

Tammy:

just gonna come out and do the hits.

Tammy:

It's not interesting to them.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

They're gonna come out and, and it's so funny because.

Tammy:

There was so much energy when they were performing what they wanted to perform.

Tammy:

Like they were just unstoppable and their, and the kids and the harmonies between

Tammy:

'em, like I I, I was just blown away.

Tammy:

And then they would put a, like a hits song kind of in between some of these long

Tammy:

things like, like a Fall at Your Feet.

Tammy:

I love that song.

Tammy:

But whenever they got to one of those, Past songs, their

Tammy:

energy noticeably dropped.

Tammy:

I was like, this isn't a very good rendition.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

I can tell they're not into it.

Tammy:

It's not that they're not good cuz they're killing it.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

On these other songs.

Tammy:

It's that they got, it just, it's probably not interesting to them to

Tammy:

play these songs from 25 years ago.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Maybe it's just not, you grow and evolve, you know?

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Oh, I just heard this from another band the other day.

Tammy:

Um, I can't even remember who it was.

Tammy:

Oh, Divo.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

I've been on a Devo kick.

Tammy:

I freaking love Devo, so whoop it.

Tammy:

Good.

Tammy:

I was on, I've on a, I was on a devo kick, uh, l you know, down,

Tammy:

uh, warm hole the other day and just watching past interviews and,

Tammy:

I still love so much their music.

Tammy:

And I, I was looking up, it was Deebo touring anywhere cause

Tammy:

I, that's on my bucket list.

Tammy:

Debos on my bucket list.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

And so I read a, a article from, um, mark.

Tammy:

one of the founding members and or I watched an inter interview and he said,

Tammy:

you know, going, he's like, going on tour is pretty tough now to get everybody to

Tammy:

go out because it's like, we're, they're in their sixties and he is like, it's

Tammy:

like performing songs that you performed.

Tammy:

In high school, it's like going back to high school and performing those songs.

Tammy:

He's like, it's just, we're just not there anymore.

Tammy:

You know, we've, we've evolved, passed it.

Tammy:

So I really understand that.

Tammy:

And the, for the fans, it's nostalgic and it's, we wanna

Tammy:

hear that and we love that song.

Tammy:

But for the musicians, They're playing something.

Tammy:

You know, this was my point with Depeche Mode in our review with Depeche Mode,

Tammy:

you're not gonna hear people are people, you're not gonna hear a lot of stuff

Tammy:

because they're not that band anymore.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

This isn't a tribute band.

Tammy:

This is a band that is really prolific and still running music and still evolving

Tammy:

as humans and artists and musicians.

Tammy:

They don't wanna perform that stuff.

Tammy:

And I really noticed that with Crowded House.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Like when they performed their hits.

Tammy:

It was like, I didn't even record, I recorded one or two of them that,

Tammy:

that were good, but the, their newer music, they were on fire.

Tammy:

Awesome.

Tammy:

It was really interesting.

Tammy:

Awesome.

Tammy:

And then, but then again, and, you know, they, they ended their, it

Tammy:

was, uh, 20 songs, like I said.

Tammy:

And they ended with, uh, something so strong, which I loved.

Tammy:

You know, that song that was great.

Tammy:

Everyone was like singing along, that was, um, mething.

Tammy:

So, and that was cool.

Tammy:

And they were too, and it was good, you know.

Tammy:

Um, but so then they went out and they came back for the, and I

Tammy:

was thinking to myself like, oh, they should have put something so

Tammy:

strong, like higher up in the set.

Tammy:

Like they should have had more, like, this was such a sing songy good song.

Tammy:

You know, I wonder.

Tammy:

And then they came out with the encore and this whole medley, and then everything

Tammy:

just exploded, including the band.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Like it energized them to, and not that they weren't energized, it was

Tammy:

just they weren't energized when they were playing really old songs.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

So, not that it was bad and most people probably wouldn't notice.

Tammy:

But I notice cuz I noticed these things.

Tammy:

But so you know, for their encore they played, weather With You.

Tammy:

I love that song.

Tammy:

Crowned House Chocolate Cake.

Tammy:

I forgot about that song.

Tammy:

And then they played, I Got You in One Step Ahead from Split Ends, which I

Tammy:

went insane cuz those were my big songs.

Tammy:

And then, um, and they ended with a Better Be Home soon.

Tammy:

And, and it was just fantastic.

Tammy:

oh, and I forgot.

Tammy:

So one of the highlights.

Tammy:

couple of the highlights actually during the show, they did play, heroes

Tammy:

by David Bowie, and that was awesome.

Tammy:

I actually, we have a clip of that, so, you know, I, we posted that

Tammy:

on our channel and also, um, they were performing Sister Madly, but

Tammy:

they infused it with Heter Skelter.

Tammy:

So all of a sudden they're singing along and all of a sudden I'm like, Hold on.

Tammy:

I hear the Beatles.

Tammy:

Hold on.

Tammy:

Like, that's halter skel, you know, so they did some really interesting things

Tammy:

and I looked at some of their other show.

Tammy:

Like they, they had a show in LA I think the a night or two before the

Tammy:

show that I went to, and they had different songs that they covered.

Tammy:

So I think they're mixing it up mm-hmm.

Tammy:

As they go along.

Tammy:

Um, what songs that they're throwing in and covering.

Tammy:

So definitely worth checking out.

Tammy:

Like I would go see them again in a heartbeat, like if you like.

Tammy:

Good musicianship.

Tammy:

If you like harmony, if you like, you know, and you like Crowded

Tammy:

House and Neil Finn freaking go.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Like, it's amazing.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Just don't expect, again, this isn't, this is my, um, damn two

Tammy:

oh warning or 2 cents or whatever.

Tammy:

Don't, it's not a tribute.

Tammy:

This isn't gonna be a tribute concert.

Tammy:

Go, don't go expecting.

Tammy:

a cover band, you know?

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

These are musicians and this is a musician

Kimberly:

show, so.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Well, you know, it's interesting because I think that, I was doing a little

Kimberly:

bit of research in, into the band in general, and I think that they broke

Kimberly:

up or they decided to stop touring years ago, right after the death of

Kimberly:

their drummer, I think, or something.

Kimberly:

Like the original lineup, had to change up.

Kimberly:

I, yeah.

Tammy:

I don't know.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

In all Hmm.

Tammy:

Honesty, I dunno why they, why they stopped.

Tammy:

I do know that they did have a, a death in the band.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

I don't know if that's when they stopped, but, and the original line

Tammy:

too was Neil and his brother Tim Finn.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

So Tim Finn is also super musician and toured with Crowded

Tammy:

House and, and are awesome.

Tammy:

So, he's not performing with a band, but I couldn't help but think, that

Tammy:

musical connection that Neil and Tim have and now he, Neil has two boys.

Tammy:

And they have that connection and then the hearing, the three of them sing,

Tammy:

you know, sing and harmonize together.

Tammy:

Like you just can't.

Tammy:

Okay.

Tammy:

So Rick bto, Rick Bto has a show as a YouTube show.

Tammy:

Uh, and he.

Tammy:

Reviews Mu, he's a genius and he reviews music.

Tammy:

And I think he's a past producer, current producer.

Tammy:

and he said something in a past episode about Wolfgang Van Halen.

Tammy:

So when he, when we saw Wolfgang Van Halen perform Van Halen songs at

Tammy:

the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts, there was something about what, you

Tammy:

know, he, to Rick's point, there's something about the genetics.

Tammy:

That you just can't, duplicate, I guess.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

There's something, and he, he talked about Wolfgang Van Halen being able to play

Tammy:

these songs and it's sounding exactly like Eddie Van, like his dad, Eddie Van Halen.

Tammy:

And it's not that Wolfgang hasn't worked his butt off.

Tammy:

It's not that he hasn't been a musician for years and years and years.

Tammy:

It's not that he hasn't played with his dad for years and years

Tammy:

and years before his passing.

Tammy:

Um, it's not discounting any of that because you can't just, you know, it's

Tammy:

not just gonna fall out of the sky and happen, but there is something about

Tammy:

that genetics, and I thought about that when I was seeing this show,

Tammy:

because no one can harmonize like that.

Tammy:

No.

Tammy:

Like if you look at the Bee Gees, you know?

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

There's just some, there's something genetic going on there in their,

Tammy:

in their similar tones in the way they're able to work together.

Tammy:

And that is exactly what it is like with Neil and his sons, and it's incredible.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

It's incredible.

Tammy:

Or even just to hear Liam sing on his own a little bit, you know, he's got his

Tammy:

own voice, but then he hits a certain note and he hits a certain tone and it's

Tammy:

like, oh God, he sounds like his dad.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

It's so cool.

Tammy:

It's so cool.

Tammy:

Well,

Kimberly:

and it's interesting because, when I reflect back on, listening to

Kimberly:

them when they were really popular in the eighties, it wasn't the harmony

Kimberly:

that really stuck out with those songs, which is so interesting.

Kimberly:

Right.

Tammy:

That's exactly it.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

And, and I guess that was, that's my summary of, of my experience at the show.

Tammy:

What was so cool is seeing him do this with his sons and,

Tammy:

and how talented they are.

Tammy:

And, and, and again, I keep saying it over and over, but

Tammy:

just their harmonies together.

Tammy:

It was just stunning, you know?

Tammy:

And on top of, I got to, I got to see one of my favorite musicians

Tammy:

of all time and got to hear.

Tammy:

Never in a million years when I was in, you know, middle school and high school.

Tammy:

Fan girling over the split ins.

Tammy:

Did I ever think, you know, in a small town like wow, fast forward,

Tammy:

many, many years later and, three years and yeah, just a few years.

Tammy:

And to get to, to get to see one of my idols, perform live.

Tammy:

There's just such a cool feeling too going to shows.

Tammy:

The thing I love about being at shows, and I've always thought this is, there's

Tammy:

a moment where I look at the stage.

Tammy:

And I look at the artist and I'm like, I'm in the same room as Neil Finn.

Tammy:

You know, like I, wow.

Tammy:

I'm in the same room, or same area, same state.

Tammy:

Same city as Dave Grohl, or you know, like just seeing them in person.

Tammy:

I mean, these guys are from New Zealand, right?

Tammy:

So just to have that gift of seeing them perform, It's never lost on me, ever.

Tammy:

It never will be.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

I just love it.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

That, that's so awesome to hear.

Kimberly:

And I think, as you're talking and I'm, I'm thinking about it, it's

Kimberly:

like, what a, what a great way to keep the legacy of the band going now

Kimberly:

that the suns are playing, you know?

Kimberly:

They're

Tammy:

gonna infuse the energy into it, right?

Tammy:

Because they're so energetic and excited and, and then it, it, it

Tammy:

infuses energy into, you know, Neil.

Tammy:

And again, he doesn't need any energy.

Tammy:

Like, he's freaking amazing.

Tammy:

Let's not forget he was touring with Fleetwood Mac a few years ago.

Tammy:

That's right.

Tammy:

When Lindsay Buckingham, was ousted from the band.

Tammy:

Neil fan toured with him.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

And, and, uh, played the mandolin and, and sang and everything else.

Tammy:

I forgot about that too.

Tammy:

Totally forgot about it.

Tammy:

but he's incredible.

Tammy:

He's still incredible.

Tammy:

You can tell he's the kind of musician that still writes, still

Tammy:

plays, still creates to this day and still sounds just amazing.

Tammy:

I just, I love to see just true artists.

Tammy:

Like

Kimberly:

that.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

It's amazing.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Yeah.

Kimberly:

And thank you for bringing that up about Fleetwood Matt.

Kimberly:

Cause I knew that he had gone out with another band and I couldn't remember.

Kimberly:

I was like, with Simple Minds or somebody, you know?

Kimberly:

Wow.

Kimberly:

I know.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

Because really when you think about it, Neilen and uh, Lindsay

Kimberly:

Buckingham, they have such different sounds and qualities too.

Kimberly:

I know

Tammy:

when they picked Neil fan, I thought that was a

Tammy:

really interesting choice.

Tammy:

Not because he's not talented or anything else, but they do.

Tammy:

They're so different.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Uh, but it seemed to really work.

Kimberly:

I'll have to go, go look at some of those old shows.

Kimberly:

I'd love to, love to hear how he sounded there.

Kimberly:

Wow.

Kimberly:

Cool.

Kimberly:

So a, a great night.

Kimberly:

It was what the set was 2020 songs.

Tammy:

20 songs plus the Encore 26.

Tammy:

So it was almost a two and a half hour concert.

Tammy:

Two hours and 15 minutes, just crowded house.

Tammy:

And then, uh, Liam, you know, at the beginning.

Tammy:

So, um, it was a pretty long show.

Tammy:

It was good.

Kimberly:

Yeah, and I had read in some of the reviews about the sing alongs.

Kimberly:

And is that, was that just impromptu or was he encouraging

Kimberly:

people to do that, or the band encouraging the audience to do that?

Tammy:

I think a little of both.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Little of both.

Tammy:

I can't really remember.

Tammy:

I was so, I was just, I was just in it singing.

Tammy:

You were singing?

Tammy:

I don't even remember.

Tammy:

Yeah.

Tammy:

Spontaneously.

Tammy:

I, yeah, I think it was a mutual, I mean, he was very chatty with the

Tammy:

audience and, you know, and so it wasn't like, you know, some, some bands get up

Tammy:

and play and hey, you know, goodnight Arizona and that's it, you know?

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

They were very chatty and very personable and, and, That's what made it great too.

Tammy:

So, uh, it, it might have been a sort of a, a call of a, you know, they sing

Tammy:

one thing and then they, you know.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

So it might have been some of that toward the end.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Curious, what were they, um, what were they chatting about?

Kimberly:

Just curiously?

Tammy:

I don't even remember.

Tammy:

I think it was, um, they were, uh, just saying it was Mesa, Arizona,

Tammy:

so the first thing they were saying, they're like, Is it Mesa, like in

Tammy:

their accents, you know, is it Mesa?

Tammy:

How do we pronounce this place?

Tammy:

It's, just stuff like that.

Tammy:

and I think they talked about, Neil said something about that, you know, it's a,

Tammy:

it's a theater and so there was a, a Dr.

Tammy:

Seuss.

Tammy:

Thing out in the lobby.

Tammy:

I think there's a Dr.

Tammy:

Seuss play or something he mentioned that is Dr.

Tammy:

Seuss playing just, just chit chatty, just right.

Tammy:

just audience chit chatty.

Tammy:

Um, I think he, and, and the auditorium was really small

Tammy:

and the stage was really close.

Tammy:

Up to the front row.

Tammy:

And that's one thing he said in the very beginning too.

Tammy:

He was like, whoa, this is, I am.

Tammy:

He's like, we're gonna get to know this front row really well.

Tammy:

He's like, there's like no barrier.

Tammy:

He's like, you must all be really trusting cuz there's like no barrier here.

Tammy:

Front row's right there.

Tammy:

So, It was

Kimberly:

kind of funny, the definition of an intimate show, right?

Kimberly:

It

Tammy:

was and that's, that's the thing is, you know, when

Tammy:

I saw they were performing at a theater, I thought, oh cool.

Tammy:

This is gonna be, it'll be mellow, but it's gonna be intimate show.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

I can sit anywhere and have a great seat.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Then, you know, I was going to sit up close.

Tammy:

There wasn't many seats left the whole.

Tammy:

Lower thing was booked except for just a few seats in the

Tammy:

back, and I thought, no, I'm not.

Tammy:

I'm not doing the standing up.

Tammy:

I'm not, I'm not gonna have, this is gonna be an older crowd.

Tammy:

Someone's gonna yell at me if I wanna stand up, so

Kimberly:

I'm gonna sit back.

Kimberly:

Someone's gonna throw a rotten tomato at you.

Kimberly:

Conscious choice.

Kimberly:

We can't have that.

Kimberly:

It's funny.

Tammy:

Learn, learn.

Kimberly:

I'm not doing that again.

Kimberly:

When Tammy got there, she's like, Hey, took a picture.

Kimberly:

She's like, here I am in the very pack.

Kimberly:

I'll be able to get this without being uh, hit with food or something.

Kimberly:

Exactly.

Kimberly:

Boo.

Kimberly:

Boo it out.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

I am so glad that you made it because I know how much you love the band.

Kimberly:

I know how much you love going to concerts, and I think it's just super

Kimberly:

exciting to hear them, carrying on.

Kimberly:

With, uh, new members of the band, and I know it's, it, they have the original bass

Kimberly:

player, I think he's also with the band.

Kimberly:

They do, yes.

Kimberly:

Yes.

Kimberly:

It was great, uh, seeing him and, yeah, I mean the, the clips that we

Kimberly:

have, uh, have up on the channel, they sound amaz, they sound and look great.

Kimberly:

I love the set.

Kimberly:

Yeah, it's really interesting looking the, you know, the set

Kimberly:

that they had for the show.

Kimberly:

Yeah.

Kimberly:

And, um, Awesome.

Kimberly:

So it's, yeah, go check 'em out.

Kimberly:

Go check 'em out, check them out, check them out.

Kimberly:

The dreamers are waiting and uh, CRAT house is waiting for you to get there

Kimberly:

and get, get to wherever they're gonna, I'm not sure where they're gonna be next.

Kimberly:

Um, I don't know if they're going to Australia or if they started in Australia.

Tammy:

No, this is just North America, so.

Tammy:

Got it.

Tammy:

This leg is just North America.

Tammy:

I think they already toured before, so I think this was the last leg

Tammy:

that was rescheduled from last fall.

Tammy:

So I think this might be it for a while.

Tammy:

So definitely go check

Kimberly:

it out.

Kimberly:

Cool.

Kimberly:

Now, before we head out, cause we do have, I do have to ask you

Kimberly:

about one of our favorite songs.

Kimberly:

Don't Dream It's Over.

Kimberly:

How was that?

Tammy:

That, you know, I can't even remember them.

Tammy:

Um, performing that like, I think it must have been toward the end because that was,

Tammy:

that's one of my favorite songs too, and.

Tammy:

I, I think I'm, I'm a little sad to say it might have been one of those

Tammy:

songs that they weren't as jazzed about performing like it was, oh.

Tammy:

You know, like it was good, right?

Tammy:

People loved it, but I didn't make a note of, oh my God, that was a great

Tammy:

rendition, or, you know, whatever.

Tammy:

So I believe they played it, I just don't even remember it.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Which is, which.

Tammy:

Not that it was bad.

Tammy:

It's not, it wasn't bad.

Tammy:

It, I was just more blown away by their newer stuff, let's put it that way.

Tammy:

And, and the, and the medley at the end.

Tammy:

I don't know that they, I think they're changing up the set list every night

Tammy:

because I looked at the set list for the few nights before and they

Tammy:

didn't have that medley at the end.

Tammy:

They just played a few songs at the end.

Tammy:

So, uh, they must be mixing it up.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Which is great.

Tammy:

Excellent.

Tammy:

Which is great.

Tammy:

Keeps, keeps them interesting, you know, um, with them, uh, in touring

Tammy:

and keeps the audience guessing, so.

Tammy:

Absolutely.

Kimberly:

And I think it's, you know, as we've talked about before, it's like

Kimberly:

it's a way forward for these bands.

Kimberly:

It's like, why continue to keep sing songs that I.

Kimberly:

That I, that I heard in high school, you know?

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Especially if you don't have the original lineup there.

Kimberly:

Right.

Kimberly:

Because it was the sound of that original lineup of that song.

Kimberly:

Right.

Kimberly:

And so keep moving forward.

Kimberly:

It's risky.

Tammy:

It's risky.

Tammy:

It's risky.

Tammy:

With the audience, it's, it's if you've got a built-in audience that's been

Tammy:

with you for a long time, which I guess they do, they probably do, then.

Tammy:

Th then it's less risk.

Tammy:

Uh, you know, and again, like at the Depeche Mode concert, m most people

Tammy:

are hardcore Depeche Mode fans.

Tammy:

And the few that I saw around me that were waiting for, you know, a song

Tammy:

from 1982 and finally heard it at the end and finally stood up and were

Tammy:

into the concert, that's, that's fine.

Tammy:

But, uh, this is.

Tammy:

Yeah.

Tammy:

It's, it's a, it's a risky, it's a risky move, and that just shows

Tammy:

you where their priorities are.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Their priorities are, of course, they wanna tour, and of course

Tammy:

they wanna entertain, but at the end of the day, they're musicians

Tammy:

and they wanna grow and evolve.

Tammy:

That's what it says to me

Kimberly:

anyway.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

I agree.

Kimberly:

And I think it, it's a, you know, like you say, it's risky, but at the same

Kimberly:

time, The reward is they have, you know, sons in the band that can now continue

Kimberly:

to play for the next couple of decades.

Kimberly:

Right.

Kimberly:

And keep the, yeah, keep the band going and build

Tammy:

new fans.

Tammy:

Most, like, most of the audience, I would say were, were with them.

Tammy:

You know, I watched all I wa I was in the mezzanine overlooking everybody, and,

Tammy:

and I saw everybody in the front row.

Tammy:

I saw everybody.

Tammy:

Down.

Tammy:

Everybody was into it until the end, so I didn't see a mass.

Tammy:

Anybody that I saw leaving was in front of me, like on the sides of the mezzanine.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

That, you know, kind of left right at, at the before the encore or.

Tammy:

Or whatever, but everybody down below, they were, they were, I

Tammy:

was, I was pleasantly surprised that they were, they stuck it out.

Tammy:

And then they really enjoyed the medley at the end and, and

Tammy:

loved them and everything else.

Tammy:

So, uh,

Kimberly:

well, they, they lost the, the reader of Warren Peace and Oh well, they

Kimberly:

survived and, uh, yeah, yeah, like really you're reading in the concert, it didn't

Tammy:

look like your normal concert.

Tammy:

Fan, you know, like I was the only one dressed at all black.

Tammy:

Like, you know what my concert wear on, I was literally the only one dressed.

Tammy:

Wow.

Tammy:

Just in my all black, little, you know, whatever.

Tammy:

And most people were in shorts, jeans and short.

Tammy:

It was, it just was a very, old, yeah, older crowd.

Tammy:

But I, I would say, Maybe a Jimmy Buffet looking crowd.

Tammy:

Hmm.

Tammy:

Interesting.

Tammy:

I, you know, maybe, uh, occasionally go to a concert, uh, a show, but I

Tammy:

didn't see many that I would say, oh yeah, these are, these are concert.

Tammy:

I could be wrong.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

But, Yeah, they enjoy the show and I'm glad, I'm glad I was, I was worried.

Tammy:

Right.

Tammy:

When I did hear lot, I thought, oh, is the crowd gonna turn?

Tammy:

You know, are they, are they gonna not turn, but are they gonna leave?

Tammy:

Are they gonna get bored?

Tammy:

Because they played for a long time.

Tammy:

So Mo, so most people were in it.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Tammy:

Which is great.

Tammy:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

And, and

Tammy:

like I said, that's their fan base.

Tammy:

You know, there were true fans there.

Tammy:

That's what I love about

Kimberly:

it.

Kimberly:

Totally.

Kimberly:

And they're, and they're gonna make new fans because it's, let's face it,

Kimberly:

it's like if you can't, replicate the songs, from 30 years ago, like, time

Kimberly:

to mix it up and how, you know, boring for, for musicians who don't wanna

Kimberly:

necessarily keep playing the same songs.

Kimberly:

Right.

Kimberly:

Exactly.

Kimberly:

Mm-hmm.

Kimberly:

Exactly.

Kimberly:

Exactly.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

Awesome.

Kimberly:

So that's that Crowded house Dreamers of waiting tour.

Kimberly:

Yeah, don't keep waiting to go out there out.
