Greetings and welcome to this latest episode of The Women of Rock.
Kim:I'm one of your hosts, Kimberly.
Kim:Hi,
Tammy:I'm Tammy.
Kim:Hey, and our channel is all about the goings on in the rock world
Kim:and our favorite rock musicians.
Kim:So remember to subscribe, like, and hit that notifications button
Kim:so you don't miss a single thing.
Kim:So, you know, this is gonna be our third from the ground reporting of a
Kim:big tour festival that's been happening.
Kim:I'm gonna hand it over to Tammy t Tammy, I heard that nature
Kim:delta cruel blow to cruel worlds.
Kim:Tell us what happened.
Tammy:Okay, so I attended Cruel World on Saturday, let's see, May 20th, 2023.
Tammy:And, it was interesting.
Tammy:It was a lot different than I thought it was gonna be.
Tammy:Obviously there was a total weather thing that happened and I'll talk about that.
Tammy:but first of all, when I booked the tickets for Cruel World,
Tammy:there, this is the second festival.
Tammy:Last year, was postponed, it actually was postponed from 2000, I think
Tammy:19 or 2020 for obvious reasons.
Tammy:I had tickets to that.
Tammy:I couldn't make it last year.
Tammy:So I've been looking forward to Cruel world since literally 2020.
Tammy:And in my mind, I thought that it was going to be more eighties,
Tammy:like Gen X, kind of eighties, like cool Gen X eighties.
Tammy:And what I found is that it was more, it was a lot more goth than I expected.
Tammy:And, so I'll talk a little more about that.
Tammy:I'll walk you through the whole process.
Tammy:I'll walk you through my whole experience
Kim:pl please, duke, because you, Tammy was sending
Tammy:me pictures and I did wear my Cool World Goth outfit today, just to
Tammy:commemorate, you know, the experience.
Tammy:But, but it was way more goth than me.
Tammy:I think I had, I sent Kimberly a text, late in the day.
Tammy:First of all, cell service was shit, so it's almost impossible
Tammy:to get through anywhere.
Tammy:And that became a problem later as well, get 5G people.
Tammy:But I sent, Kimberly a text and it said, I'm in a C of Goth.
Tammy:And that's really what it felt like a sea of, I get, I think the attendance
Tammy:was, I heard numbers of around 37,000.
Tammy:Oh, wow.
Tammy:It seemed like far it, honestly, it was, I think the venue, so the venue,
Tammy:it was at the Brookside Park, which is right next to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Tammy:So it's a big giant park that they set up three different stages.
Tammy:I read somewhere that it was the size of four football fields to
Tammy:get from one stage to another.
Tammy:I believe it, it was a lot of w walking.
Tammy:I was prepared for walking.
Tammy:I was not prepared for the heat and it wasn't really even that hot.
Tammy:But when you're in a sea of everyone wearing all black in the
Tammy:sun, when it's 79 it gets hot.
Kim:Things heated up fast.
Kim:Huh?
Tammy:Fast.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:you heat up fast.
Tammy:there was, it is almost like there was two cruel worlds going on.
Tammy:There was the cruel world, which I saw most of the goth, cruel world.
Tammy:I was looking for the Gen X cruel world, but somehow I got mixed in with the
Tammy:goth cruel world, I think because of the choice of bands I saw and where I
Tammy:was standing and that sort of thing.
Tammy:But it was really overwhelming.
Tammy:So let me start from the beginning.
Tammy:it took, the gates opened at noon.
Tammy:It took me, I started driving to the venue about, I think it was around 1230.
Tammy:First of all, I flew in that morning, so I flew in that morning to Burbank, rented
Tammy:a car, went straight to the venue, sat in traffic for an hour to get parking
Tammy:into the venue, which was just in this grassy area, looked like a golf course.
Tammy:And, right next to the venue, got into the venue, proceeded to
Tammy:get my water, get my bearings.
Tammy:What was, where were the stages?
Tammy:What time?
Tammy:I had the map and the set list times and everything.
Tammy:but it was really a lot more than I, than I anticipated.
Tammy:I forgot, you know, it's been a few years since I've been to a festival and.
Tammy:I forgot the amount of stamina that it takes to endure a festival.
Kim:You have to train, like you're training for a
Kim:marathon to go to these things.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:You really have to pace yourself and you're dealing with elements, you're
Tammy:dealing with heat, you're dealing with crowds of people, tons of people.
Tammy:So I also bought, a general admission ticket and which
Tammy:I'll probably never do again.
Tammy:I would not go without an upgraded vi.
Tammy:They have v i p and clubhouse tickets.
Tammy:Where you have more, I think, more exclusive areas, but you just have
Tammy:like shorter food lines, shorter merch line, you know, all of that stuff.
Tammy:And you know, dedicated area.
Tammy:I'm too damn old for general admission, anything with ac, the pandemic.
Tammy:But damn, I got old because I was dying, like dying and I,
Tammy:I wasn't the only one either.
Tammy:So anyway there.
Tammy:So there were two cruel worlds from what I saw.
Tammy:The golf crew world and the golf crew world was a lot of young
Tammy:goths, which really surprised me.
Tammy:And I learned later that there were a lot of goth bands that were playing
Tammy:throughout the day, that were newer bands that attracted that younger crowd.
Tammy:Interesting.
Tammy:I didn't expect that.
Tammy:I just expected everybody to be old like me.
Tammy:And, hobbling around.
Tammy:I didn't expect.
Tammy:The Goth fashion show, and I mean, goth fashion show, it
Tammy:was like Coachella for goths.
Tammy:Cruel World is the Coachella for goths.
Tammy:I'm not even kidding.
Tammy:Like the outfits.
Tammy:And I was like, this is what I was wearing with like, you know, this shirt,
Tammy:love that I was gonna do my Wednesday.
Tammy:I was, this is a nod to Wednesday Adams.
Tammy:So I was gonna wear, I have some really cool Wednesday shoes that I was gonna
Tammy:wear, but I, when I saw the lineup that got released, a few days before the
Tammy:festival I realized that I was gonna be doing a lot of hiking back and forth.
Tammy:And so I went and bought some comfy sketchers, Hey, if Susie can wear
Tammy:comfy shoes on stage, so can I, there was a meme going around about
Tammy:that, and I'm like, whoa, man.
Tammy:Susie's wearing skit.
Tammy:Well, she's wearing, you know, Steve McQueen or something, but
Tammy:I'm like, no, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go for the Black Sketchers.
Tammy:I'm so glad I did saying
Kim:Comfort is the new sexy, by the way, what is Comfort
Kim:is the new sexy, by the way.
Kim:Dang.
Tammy:no way.
Tammy:I would've been dying.
Tammy:I was dying as it was, but, so then there's the Gen X, cruel
Tammy:world, but I just did, I guess it was the bands that I went to see.
Tammy:I didn't see a lot of the Gen X and again, Now that I know the lay of the land from
Tammy:being there once and where maybe the Gen Xers were versus the younger GOs.
Tammy:Now I sort of know, I didn't know.
Tammy:and quite honestly, I was just dealing with okay, you know, the heat?
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:The heat and the sheer stamina of walking and very little shade.
Tammy:Where can I sit down?
Tammy:And by sit down, I mean ass on grass.
Tammy:You're sitting on the ground, not like, oh, I'm gonna go find a seat.
Tammy:no.
Tammy:There are a few tinted areas, but they were packed and I'm like, I
Tammy:don't really wanna go sit on a picnic table underneath, I just, it just
Tammy:didn't really, so I chose grass.
Tammy:I'm not sure it was the right choice.
Tammy:Cause my back and my legs and my feet hurt so bad by the end of the day.
Tammy:But, It is what it is.
Tammy:So next time, this is my last general session or general session.
Tammy:You can tell.
Tammy:I'm a former event planner.
Tammy:My last general admission, to any kind of festival, I will forever now be going, v
Tammy:i p or smaller or something after that.
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:My, my body can't handle it anymore.
Tammy:I'm sad.
Tammy:The same, my mind wanted to, I really did.
Tammy:I really thought I could, but it was a rude awakening.
Tammy:And
Kim:did, and I guess another note is you'll remember to peck that, that Ben
Kim:gay, the next time you go to something you can, it wouldn't massage on your muscles.
Tammy:It wouldn't even have mattered because it was more like bone tired, you
Tammy:know, like Like just my back was like, Yeah, no, we're not walking anymore.
Tammy:We're, you're gonna need to sit for a while or And I know I wasn't the only
Tammy:one, but still it was a rude awakening.
Tammy:It was a, it was kind of a bummer.
Kim:so cruel world earned its name, Saye guy.
Kim:it was a little bit of a cruel why the name Cruel World, by the way.
Kim:And it
Tammy:is, and it's funny.
Tammy:So let me jump to the obvious event that happened and that it got shut down early.
Tammy:So first of all, there, okay, this was during, this was
Tammy:toward the end of the festival.
Tammy:It was during Iggy Pop.
Tammy:It was dark.
Tammy:It started to, thunder and lightning.
Tammy:Not a lot of people saw the lightning.
Tammy:I saw the lightning because, I was sitting on the ground far back from, I
Tammy:couldn't make it to the front of Iggy Pop.
Tammy:I just was too damn tired.
Tammy:I'm like, I've seen Iggy Pop before and I love Iggy Pop,
Tammy:but I just, I couldn't do it.
Tammy:I'm like, there's no way.
Tammy:I was up there in front for Gary Newman and some other bands, but by
Tammy:the time Aggy Pop came around at, I don't know, nine o'clock, 8 30, 8 30,
Tammy:9 o'clock at night, I couldn't do it.
Tammy:I'm like, there's, because I would've had to fight.
Tammy:Once you get up front.
Tammy:Then there's a moment where you're like, I'm, I need to get outta here.
Tammy:And you turn around and there's 20,000 people behind you that you
Tammy:have to kind of whittle through.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:And, and so there's a little bit of a panic of like, uh, can I get outta here?
Tammy:So I knew I wasn't gonna be able to stand for a long time during Iggy, so I'm
Tammy:just like, I'm just gonna have to sit.
Tammy:And, so he was only into a few songs, and I heard this, oh, this kind
Tammy:of, and I was like, what happened?
Tammy:And I looked over and there were a few people filming the sky.
Tammy:I'm like, what the hell?
Tammy:And then I s and then I saw the lightning, and I was like, oh.
Tammy:And right then the sound cut out for Iggy.
Tammy:Like the sound just cut out and I was like, oh shit,
Tammy:they're gonna shut this down.
Tammy:And every, no one noticed that.
Tammy:I don't know.
Tammy:I don't know if anyone was in denial.
Tammy:Just didn't want, or a lot of people didn't see the lightning.
Tammy:Cause if you were up close, you were watching the band,
Tammy:it was off in the distance.
Tammy:Of course you didn't see it.
Tammy:right then I got up.
Tammy:I started walking to the exit.
Tammy:I'm like, fuck this.
Tammy:The 50,000 people are gonna be heading for, they're going to, you
Tammy:know, I just knew, I just knew.
Tammy:So I started limping my way toward the exit, which was, a good two
Tammy:miles away, which your walker.
Tammy:And I'm like, I'm gonna go to the bathroom first, in the real bathrooms.
Tammy:Not the freaking porta potty.
Tammy:I'm gonna go to the real bathrooms on the way out and I'm
Tammy:gonna get the hell outta here.
Tammy:So that's exactly what happened.
Tammy:I started, I started wheeling, limping my way out, and the human league was playing.
Tammy:and I'll get to the bands and the set times and everything, cause that was
Tammy:a whole other cluster, but for me.
Tammy:But, human League was playing and I really wanted to see them.
Tammy:But I love Iggy.
Tammy:I had to make a choice.
Tammy:I went to see Iggy as I was going out.
Tammy:I thought, I.
Tammy:human League is by the exit and I can't really remember where the exit is cuz it's
Tammy:so freaking dark and there's no lights.
Tammy:So I'm limping my way back past Human League.
Tammy:Human League is still playing.
Tammy:Iggy has cut out.
Tammy:I can already hear by now that they've stopped Iggy.
Tammy:And I just kept going.
Tammy:I'm just like, oh, there's human league.
Tammy:Okay.
Tammy:I heard they're doing gr okay.
Tammy:I just went right past them, went to the nearest bathroom and by the time I got out
Tammy:of the bathroom, there were just lines of people leaving and I was like, oh shit.
Tammy:Oh man.
Tammy:So I, so fortunately, because I got there so early, and by early I mean by the
Tammy:time I got parked, it was about one 30.
Tammy:So my car was really close to the exit.
Tammy:Somehow miraculously I was in, section F or something and there was an exit
Tammy:right there and I just exited right out.
Tammy:I took photos where my car was so I could find my way back.
Tammy:And got in, got the hell outta there before anybody, like before
Tammy:the majority of the people did.
Tammy:So I was really lucky.
Tammy:Like I knew, I just knew when that sound cut out and people thought it was
Tammy:like, oh, I think even Iggy thought, oh, like something's wrong with the sound.
Tammy:They were cutting the sound because the fire Marshall was shutting down
Tammy:the festival because of the lightning.
Tammy:So thank God I wasn't in the front for Iggy, because that would've, I forget it.
Tammy:I would've never.
Kim:Crazy.
Kim:It's Iggy, I love you, but I'm not going to get struck by lightning over
Tammy:you then.
Tammy:people didn't know knowing what was going on.
Tammy:and the announcement, you couldn't hear the announcement?
Tammy:I read online someone, someone said, it sounded like they had a kid on the pa.
Tammy:You could barely hear ' em that said, oh, the festival is something, and so nobody
Tammy:paid attention cuz you couldn't hear it.
Tammy:And no, nobody knew, but I knew, I get, I don't know, I don't know
Tammy:how I knew, but I just knew, oh, they're gonna shut this shit down.
Tammy:I gotta get outta here.
Tammy:thank God.
Tammy:Cause I heard, I read stories of people, first of all, thank God I
Tammy:drove because getting an Uber, forget it in the area and you had no service.
Tammy:There was no service.
Tammy:So how are you gonna call, get an Uber when you can't get internet there?
Tammy:And, 20,000 people trying to get an Uber at the same time or whatever.
Tammy:They had shuttles.
Tammy:I don't know what happened with the shuttles, but, and then the parking
Tammy:lot was so dark, unmarked, no rhyme or reason, People were wandering around just
Tammy:even trying to find their car for hours.
Tammy:I read some guy, like Google mapped, how do I get outta here?
Tammy:Basically just walking.
Tammy:I think he was trying to get Uber, couldn't get an Uber.
Tammy:Started walking and walked over some mountain.
Tammy:So, cause it's in an area, there's nothing, you know, there's, it's,
Tammy:there's nothing close by in the area.
Tammy:You gotta walk a couple miles to get to any main street or anything.
Tammy:So I read somebody had, you know, like Matt questioned, you
Tammy:know, how do I walk outta here?
Tammy:And it walked him up a mountain and then he got to the top of the mountain.
Tammy:It was fenced off, so he had to turn around and walk back in the dark.
Tammy:Like, I mean, just horror stories about people trying to get out there.
Tammy:And I can't, I don't know.
Tammy:I'm sure it took at least two hours to get at least two hours to get out of there.
Tammy:For a lot of people.
Tammy:So I was very happy that I got out right away.
Tammy:And by then I was like, I.
Tammy:I just made it to my hotel, limped into the lobby, grabbed my key and went
Tammy:to my room and just like immediately took a shower and went to bed.
Tammy:I was just, well, mean, I couldn't fall asleep.
Tammy:I was still wired, but still, I was just like, I cannot stand or walk any longer.
Tammy:Like, that's it.
Tammy:I'm done, but I'm done.
Tammy:little did I know that Shirley Manson from Garbage, who I love, was staying at
Tammy:the same hotel and she was in the lobby having a drink, but I didn't know cuz I
Tammy:was too damn tired and went to my room.
Tammy:I didn't know until the next day.
Tammy:I saw her Insta Stories and she was posting photos of herself
Tammy:at like the lame hotel bar.
Tammy:Cause the hotel was under construction, under renovation.
Tammy:Under construction.
Tammy:I'm like, Oh man, at my hotel, I could have had a drink with
Tammy:Shirley Masson, but wasn't,
Tammy:who
Kim:knew?
Kim:You could have maybe asked her to rub some Ben Gay on you.
Kim:I mean, you could have talked about the whole thing.
Kim:Crazy, right?
Tammy:Crazy.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:So then I think at three in the morning they sent out a, a
Tammy:message over the app that said, we're gonna reschedule to Sunday.
Tammy:And so this gets a lot of mixed reaction, but they rescheduled Susie,
Tammy:Gary Newman, and Iggy for Sunday.
Tammy:So Gary Newman, I think six o'clock, I don't know, whatever, you know, staggered
Tammy:each and, and extended time for Susie.
Tammy:I have no idea how they pulled that off, honestly.
Tammy:as a former event planner, that's a ton of logistics to get.
Tammy:All of the crew back, not only the artists, but all of the crew back.
Tammy:And then they had some, I think concessions.
Tammy:Not full concessions, but some concessions.
Tammy:They sent everybody's ticket back to them.
Tammy:They just said, use your parking's free, use your same ticket.
Tammy:But a lot of people like myself were flying out Sunday morning,
Tammy:so they couldn't make it.
Tammy:So then they sent out a message later Sunday afternoon that said, for those
Tammy:of you that can't make it, you can email us and request a partial refund.
Tammy:And so I thought that was above and beyond, festivals or concerts
Tammy:on the East coast in Florida.
Tammy:Gets shut down all the time.
Tammy:And I think it's, sorry, you're s o l So I, I've never heard of anybody doing this.
Tammy:A lot of people were blaming Golden Voice, and cruel world for
Tammy:shutting it down, but it wasn't them, it was the fire department.
Tammy:There's nothing they could do.
Tammy:So it was the, the Pasadena Fire Department that shut
Tammy:down, and I don't blame 'em.
Tammy:I'm in Arizona and they're, the week before we had horrific storms here, like
Tammy:monsoon storms that we usually have in maybe August timeframe, but they were
Tammy:last week and they, those blew in so fast.
Tammy:And like thunder, lightning, the whole thing.
Tammy:So, I understand like how brutal those quick storms can be.
Tammy:And I'm sure a lot of people do too.
Tammy:But if you're from California, you're like, what the hell?
Tammy:And then it didn't rain so on top, right?
Tammy:So to make it worse, a lot of people didn't see the lightning.
Tammy:They were mad.
Tammy:A lot of people came in to see Susie, she hadn't performed in 15
Tammy:years, and this was the only North American date that she was doing.
Tammy:And so understandably, people were just livid.
Tammy:and but what do you do?
Tammy:I don't, you can't predict that kind of weather.
Tammy:I did see on the app earlier in the day that there was
Tammy:some thunderstorms and stuff.
Tammy:but it just, it blew in really fast.
Tammy:And I know from being here that sometimes those storms blow in
Tammy:so fast and they're intense.
Tammy:And if you are in.
Tammy:Anywhere around that electrical, that stage, all those things
Tammy:are lightning rods, all that.
Tammy:Totally.
Tammy:You know, so I, I understand it sucks, but here, so as I was making
Tammy:my way toward the exit hobbling my way toward the exit, I was thinking, maybe
Tammy:they shouldn't name it cruel world.
Tammy:Like, well, if you're gonna name, if you're gonna put the energy out there that
Tammy:this is the cruel world festival, don't be surprised when shit goes sideways,
Tammy:because that is just the nature of it.
Tammy:like the whole, and even like before all of this happened, the vibe of this
Tammy:festival is, is dark and brooding.
Tammy:It's, it's goth.
Tammy:So it's despair, that kind of thing.
Tammy:I mean, it's, it is joy, but it's also despair.
Tammy:So, hey, maybe let's name it, I don't know.
Tammy:Happy world.
Tammy:that would never happen.
Tammy:But, but point being, I just, I'm like, this is so ironic.
Tammy:Or maybe not, maybe not.
Tammy:School has been postponed a number of times from 2020.
Tammy:what has something happened last year that I don't even remember.
Tammy:And then they were saying, the lightning thing this year and
Tammy:people are making comments online.
Tammy:What's gonna happen next year?
Tammy:You know, just welcome the locus.
Tammy:Like, we'll see what happens next year.
Tammy:So it was not fun in the moment.
Tammy:and again, a lot of people were upset, but you gotta kinda
Tammy:laugh Dang, what are the odds?
Tammy:I don't know.
Tammy:No,
Kim:and it's interesting cuz you sent me, I think it was an IG feed and I was
Kim:looking, and it seemed like it was split.
Kim:You had people that were like, well, I mean, what are we gonna do?
Kim:Get struck by lightning.
Kim:And then everyone's running around in a panic.
Kim:everyone's doing the best they can, versus people that are like,
Kim:oh my God, I came to sue Suzie and she's, you know, it's been 30 years.
Kim:So I kind of understood.
Kim:And then you had people that were claiming it was all made up and it wasn't weather.
Kim:They were like these weird conspiracies and stuff.
Tammy:It's like calm where all of humanity comes in.
Tammy:You know, you've got the conspiracy theorists and then you've got some
Tammy:people, there was somebody that posted, I'm on a few different cruel
Tammy:world attendee Facebook groups, right?
Tammy:And then you have somebody posting, I'm gonna file a class action lawsuit.
Tammy:I'm like, are you serious?
Tammy:So then you just start to run the gamut of.
Tammy:People's experiences and how they view the world.
Tammy:All in one goth melting pot.
Kim:Goth world meets cruel world.
Kim:And here you go.
Kim:Locuses.
Kim:Enlightening.
Kim:come on, what did, but let's face it, it gives you some great stories, everybody.
Kim:it definitely wasn't It wasn't uninteresting, right?
Tammy:but the bummer was too, even if I could have stayed for Susie and
Tammy:Aggy the next day, I was so tired.
Kim:okay, so we had goth.
Kim:World meets cruel world.
Kim:lightning striking locus is falling.
Kim:what a crazy festival.
Kim:Huh?
Tammy:It.
Tammy:Yeah, it was, yeah, it was much different than I expected.
Kim:Yeah.
Kim:What did you expect, by the way, did you have an idea?
Kim:if you remember, what did you think was gonna, what were you anticipating?
Tammy:like I said, I didn't think it was gonna be as goth as it was.
Tammy:I was really surprised to see how many young goth people there were and,
Tammy:and how many goth people in general.
Tammy:I just thought it would be more, adult Gen x.
Tammy:I didn't expect as many young people.
Tammy:It's not a bad thing.
Tammy:it's great that they attracted, so who knew there were so many young thoughts.
Tammy:but it, it's great, but I, it just, I just wasn't expecting it.
Kim:Yeah.
Kim:mean, some of the pictures of the people, it was like just to go and people
Kim:watch seemed like that would've been interesting in an, in its own Right.
Kim:Just to check people out on their outfits.
Tammy:And for me, it was a l it was.
Tammy:I hate to say it, but it was distracting.
Tammy:Like I'm there for the music.
Tammy:I'm not there for Coachella of golf.
Tammy:I am, I like, I wanna have fun.
Tammy:I dressed up, I wanna have fun, but I'm there hyper-focused on the bands.
Tammy:I wanna see.
Tammy:There were so many bands and so much music.
Tammy:So for me it was, it was a bit distracting, like, wow,
Tammy:people are going all out.
Tammy:and I kept thinking, is this how they dress every day?
Tammy:I'm sure it probably isn't, maybe its, I dunno.
Tammy:And I'm thinking, I wonder where they work.
Tammy:I wonder what kinda work they do.
Tammy:I wonder if, I just, I was, it was really, it was quite a show.
Tammy:Yeah.
Kim:that's like a perfect segueway to get into like what
Kim:bands played at Go Cell, who was there, go Cell, what was happening.
Tammy:That's hysterical.
Tammy:Okay.
Tammy:That's probably gonna be the, the title of this episode, goth Cell Goth.
Tammy:So, oh my gosh.
Tammy:So, well, I'll just run down like some of the bands that I saw, some
Tammy:of the bands I wanted to see and I, everything in between, So when I first
Tammy:got there, eighties Band and Emotion was one of the first band playing.
Tammy:They were, they were okay.
Tammy:I, I knew one of their songs.
Tammy:I don't know how much they've played in recent years.
Tammy:it was okay that, and it was early in the day, right after.
Tammy:Them in the, in a stage nearby was Berlin.
Tammy:And Berlin was playing in place of, the motels who canceled last minute.
Tammy:I'm not sure why Berlin put on a great show.
Tammy:I didn't go to that stage.
Tammy:Again, I was all about maximizing energy and walking at that point, even early on.
Tammy:So I could see Berlin from where I was sitting ass on grass.
Tammy:But I did walk up to the stage and, they were phenomenal.
Tammy:Like they, Terry nun, they're still touring.
Tammy:she looks great, sounds great.
Tammy:She was so excited.
Tammy:I saw somewhere online somebody said the most enthusiastic goes to, to
Tammy:Berlin most enthusiastic performance.
Tammy:and it was, she was great and people loved it.
Kim:Now my question is, did she have that signature hairdo?
Kim:Did she, is she still rocking that
Tammy:hairdo?
Tammy:She had pigtails and one was black and one was blonde.
Tammy:Ah, looks fantastic.
Tammy:She looked great.
Tammy:She looked great.
Tammy:then there were, oh, I didn't talk about the merch line.
Tammy:So in between I was there to see Gary Newman flat out.
Tammy:Like I, I was there to see a lot of bands, but the performer that I
Tammy:was not gonna miss was Gary Newman.
Tammy:I missed his tour last year.
Tammy:I couldn't get to any of the dates.
Tammy:And so when I saw he was performing at Cruel World, I just, that was it.
Tammy:I had to seek Gary Newman.
Tammy:So Gary Newman was playing at 5 35.
Tammy:And there were a few bands playing in between I that I, I could catch or not.
Tammy:And I thought, maybe this is a good time to wait in the merch line.
Tammy:I waited for 45 minutes in the merch line and barely moved.
Tammy:I had to bail so I wouldn't Ms.
Tammy:Gary Newman.
Tammy:And I heard reports later that the merch line was two hours.
Tammy:People stood in line for two hours or more for merch.
Tammy:Wow.
Tammy:I'm not waiting in line for a shirt.
Tammy:I'm sorry.
Tammy:But, so that was a bummer.
Tammy:that was one of those things where if there were two improvements of the
Tammy:festival, one was get the merch shit together because it is a, who wants to
Tammy:wait in line pe I saw people saying that they waited in line and missed two bands.
Tammy:I would never miss a band to, I don't blame that, just
Tammy:get a t-shirt, but god damn.
Tammy:No way.
Tammy:So that, that's awful.
Tammy:get some more merch.
Tammy:There's demand for it.
Tammy:Get some more merch tables, whatever.
Tammy:so that's my rant on that.
Tammy:The other was the parking lot.
Tammy:The parking lot was a disaster.
Tammy:And because of the emergency, this was not even, this was an emergency.
Tammy:they put up the, this is an emergency, make your way toward the exit.
Tammy:I was already long gone by then, but let's, God forbid there's
Tammy:a shooting or something, that's the world we live in now.
Tammy:That was a shit show to get out of there.
Tammy:moving forward, and I think they realize that there, I don't know
Tammy:if it's the city of Pasadena.
Tammy:I don't know if it's cruel world.
Tammy:I don't know if it's both, but there is like one road going in
Tammy:and out of there, like around, but the parking lot was a nightmare.
Tammy:Places were not lit that well.
Tammy:You couldn't see, you c in the festival you couldn't see.
Tammy:The bathrooms weren't lit at night, There was a lot of safety issues and
Tammy:they're lucky that people, that this wasn't a real emergency and that
Tammy:storm didn't blow in or worse And even security getting in, they had a metal
Tammy:detector but they weren't checking anybody's bags or anything like that.
Tammy:So security is a real issue that they really need to address for next year.
Tammy:So anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Tammy:So on my way after standing in line, sweating to death, trying to get fucking
Tammy:T-shirt, which I never got, I went to Gary Newman, I made my way over empty handed,
Tammy:made my way over to Gary Newman and, and got up pretty close and he was phenomenal.
Tammy:So different than I expected.
Tammy:this is, this is not eighties tribute Gary Newman.
Tammy:He's been performing long since then, and, He has changed his sound
Tammy:to more of an industrial, very, more of a heavy industrial sound.
Tammy:And the people that were there were Gary Newman fans and tons, I mean, there was
Tammy:a sea of people watching Gary Newman.
Tammy:his show was very theatrical.
Tammy:he was fantastic.
Tammy:He's 65 years old and quite agile.
Tammy:Might I add Wow.
Tammy:Doing, like these squats.
Tammy:And I'm just like, how is he doing that, phenomenal performance, which is strange.
Tammy:Some people online were commenting that he was lip syncing.
Tammy:I'm like, I don't see it.
Tammy:I was up pretty close.
Tammy:I don't see it, but I think there was a leg from, what
Tammy:you were seeing on the screen.
Tammy:If you were seeing him from far away.
Tammy:There was a leg from.
Tammy:What's showing on the screen and what you're hearing, there's a slight delay.
Tammy:So I think that's why people were saying that he was li
Tammy:maybe he had a backing track.
Tammy:a lot of artists do.
Tammy:That's not a big deal.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:He was not lip syncing.
Tammy:I don't know why people are saying that.
Tammy:He was phenomenal.
Tammy:I don't know.
Tammy:Anyway, maybe I'm biased cause I'm G fan, but I thought it was amazing.
Tammy:And what was really cool too was I saw his wife, on the
Tammy:side of the stage filming him.
Tammy:I'm like, there's Gemma, his wife, like I'm, and then at the very end,
Tammy:his three daughters went to the side of the stage and were watching him.
Tammy:And, and he like pointed to them, and not during his performance, not to the crowd.
Tammy:But you could see like he was, just like waving because this was his last
Tammy:performance, this was it for his tour.
Tammy:Oh wow.
Tammy:so for the US anyway, and at the end of this, the intruder
Tammy:tour, so this was the last date.
Tammy:So it was really cool.
Tammy:I'm really glad I got to see him.
Kim:excellent.
Kim:I know that, you're a huge fan.
Kim:We've talked about him on other episodes, so I'm so happy you had
Kim:a chance to see him without uh, any interruptions and everything.
Tammy:Yeah, I did.
Tammy:We did, post a clip of one of his songs, metal on our channel, so you can see
Tammy:that, below, but, get a glimpse of it.
Tammy:But he was great band.
Tammy:Phenomenal.
Tammy:Like just great show.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:And
Kim:I wanted to comment on that because the clips that you put up, it looks
Kim:visually in just some, production-wise, it looked like a really great production.
Tammy:Oh yeah.
Tammy:Pretty, yes, production-wise, Fanta just the tour must have been amazing
Tammy:cuz it was so theatrical and.
Tammy:performance wise.
Tammy:Production wise, yeah.
Tammy:Really cool.
Tammy:And then you sounded great.
Kim:awesome.
Kim:But I know that, one thing that you mentioned that made it difficult for
Kim:you to see everybody you wanted, they had staggered performances, right?
Kim:Yeah.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:So I'm sure they do that for a reason to maybe, I don't know,
Tammy:maybe separate people, cuz n not all, 37,000, 50,000, whatever can
Tammy:go, can fit right, can go see one.
Tammy:So you have to make a choice.
Tammy:So I didn't make a lot of uncomfortable choices, which sucked.
Tammy:And in fact, and the festival was really crowded.
Tammy:That was the other thing that I didn't expect.
Tammy:it was really crowded, almost like there's too many people
Tammy:here crowded in for this space.
Tammy:That's how it felt to me.
Tammy:I've seen a few other people online that's maybe that's normal.
Tammy:Maybe I'm getting old and it's, but it just, it.
Tammy:The whole thing to me was just like, I don't know about this venue.
Tammy:I, I'm not so sure last year the festival was two days because they had such demand.
Tammy:So they had the exact same show two days in a row, which would be
Tammy:amazing because, and then just split the crowd, you know, like Right.
Tammy:Not have as big of a crowd, sell it for two days.
Tammy:And then that way it's more manageable because if it were two days, I would've
Tammy:just stayed at one stage And watched all the artists that I want to on that stage.
Tammy:And then the next day I would've gone back to the other two stages that were closer
Tammy:together to see all the eighties bands.
Tammy:So like the main stage was, I guess more goth, I guess.
Tammy:and Susie was headlining the main stage, Iggy Susie, Gary Newman.
Tammy:And then there were a number of goth, newer goth bands before that, that I
Tammy:know, like a lot of goth industrial kind of, electronic music before that,
Tammy:and then over at the other two stages were a lot of the eighties bands, oh,
Tammy:I almost forgot, I forgot to write them down that they were so good.
Tammy:One of the first bands I saw was the Vapors.
Tammy:Oh, wow.
Tammy:Oh wow.
Tammy:in eighties, I think even late seventies and eighties band.
Tammy:And they were phenomenal.
Tammy:Like they were so good.
Tammy:I loved the papers they were on after an motion.
Tammy:they were great.
Tammy:And so did they
Kim:sing that song?
Kim:I'm turning Japanese.
Kim:It might think.
Kim:Okay.
Kim:Fantastic.
Kim:Yes, that's them.
Kim:That's exactly Oh, got it.
Tammy:And then when I went to wait in the merch line, I could still see that
Tammy:stage and still hear, and gang of four.
Tammy:Played and Gang of Four, is the band that, that, that had the
Tammy:song, I Love A Man In Uniform.
Tammy:Oh yeah.
Tammy:I love that song.
Tammy:They were phenomenal.
Tammy:And they were very, I think a very political band and about,
Tammy:against capitalism and things and they were phenomenal.
Tammy:I was like, everybody was literally like, whoa, look at King of Four.
Tammy:Everybody was talking about Gang of Four.
Tammy:They were so good.
Tammy:So I would check them out in a small club.
Tammy:I would see them in a heartbeat.
Tammy:I bet they are crazy good.
Tammy:in a small club.
Tammy:They were crazy good.
Tammy:at Ella, but in a small, in a smaller club.
Tammy:I almost said Coachella.
Tammy:They, but they were, I would see them in a heartbeat.
Tammy:So they were really good.
Tammy:It's awesome.
Tammy:But I was making my way to Gary Newman, so I had to go, they had two stages close
Tammy:together, pretty close together, and they had a lot of the eighties bands there.
Tammy:But I had to go to the main stage to get to Gary Newman, and I knew it was
Tammy:probably gonna be parked there for a while and gonna miss the other bands.
Tammy:So I did Miss, oh Adam, Matt ca I really wanted to see Adam.
Tammy:Matt.
Tammy:He canceled his whole North American tour actually just a
Tammy:few days before, cruel World.
Tammy:do you know why?
Tammy:They haven't given a reason.
Tammy:I know he struggled with a lot of health and mental health issues, so it, I,
Tammy:I, I don't know what the reason is.
Tammy:I hope he's, I hope he's okay.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:So unfortunately, and in his place was Squeeze, which I didn't.
Tammy:Oh, wow.
Tammy:See, because I was over overseeing, trying to get to Gary Newman's.
Tammy:but I heard Squeeze was amazing.
Tammy:Squeeze is now on tour with a psychedelic first, so that would
Tammy:be a show I would go check out.
Tammy:I heard the Squeeze was phenomenal.
Tammy:Oh, wow.
Kim:Never
Tammy:love them, love them.
Tammy:Abc, I really wanted to see Martin Fry.
Tammy:I heard ABC was spectacular.
Tammy:I saw some clips online, didn't get to see 'em, they were too far away.
Tammy:I was a Gary Newman and Loving Rockets, so that's what I had to choose.
Tammy:So after Gary Newman was loving rockets and there was no way I was
Tammy:missing loving rockets because this was their first performance in 15 years.
Tammy:and I stood, right at the beginning of Love and Rock.
Tammy:I thought maybe, maybe I'll catch.
Tammy:Half of Love and rockets and then maybe try to get over to a b abc.
Tammy:But Love and Rockets was so stunning.
Tammy:I couldn't take my eyes off it.
Tammy:I couldn't leave.
Tammy:So they were so good.
Tammy:And I posted a clip of one of their songs as well on our channels
Tammy:to check that out, their show.
Tammy:They just, them, they like, that was the first show of the day
Tammy:where I was just like, whoa.
Tammy:Rock stars, man.
Tammy:They were like, Daniel was wearing this, red glittery, jacket and they,
Tammy:the lighting was just perfect on it.
Tammy:They must have had a spotlight on it.
Tammy:And it was just like glittering and the production in the stage show,
Tammy:and they were, just mesmerizing.
Tammy:So love and rockets was phenomenal.
Tammy:I'm so glad I got to see them, but I had to miss ABC to see them.
Tammy:I had to mis squeeze to see them.
Tammy:So it's a bummer.
Tammy:I really wish it was two days.
Tammy:Cause even if I were, a young goth and able to like literally sprint back
Tammy:and forth between the shows, you still had, they were overlapping too much.
Tammy:You still, you either choose to.
Tammy:See all the bands for a couple of minutes to try to get in as many
Tammy:as possible, or the ones you really wanna see and not get to see the
Tammy:others, try to catch them on tour.
Tammy:So it's like a sample.
Tammy:The, that's what I used to love about festivals is you got to see, shorter
Tammy:sets of so many different artists, but the way that Cruel world was
Tammy:staggered, there was too much overlap.
Tammy:At least, years ago when I went to Coachella, years and year,
Tammy:I'm talking like 2007, at least.
Tammy:The o the overlap wasn't bad.
Tammy:Like you could walk, okay, I'm gonna go see a squeeze.
Tammy:But they end about five minutes before Gary Newman's.
Tammy:So you could really see they staggered him well enough to where
Tammy:you could make it back and forth.
Tammy:They didn't do that at Cruel World.
Tammy:They overlapped too much.
Tammy:I don't know.
Tammy:I don't know why I feel like it's a capacity issue.
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:Because I don't, you know, so, So then from there, Billy Idol was playing
Tammy:and right after 11 Rockets, sprinted, well, sprint is a strong word.
Tammy:I again, was able to walk, moved with intentions.
Tammy:This space, at that point, still it was hurting, but I was still able to
Tammy:walk and I made it over to the tail end of Billy Idol and there was a
Tammy:Sea of Gen X people at Billy Idol.
Tammy:Oh.
Tammy:And they were happy as fuck to see Billy Idol like they were.
Tammy:I walked up and immediately I was like, whoa.
Tammy:Like the energy was, everybody was so happy, And remember this
Tammy:was a goth festival, more or less.
Tammy:So it was great to, and I was looking around ah, here's
Tammy:where all the old people are.
Tammy:Cool.
Tammy:So I couldn't even get remotely close to Billy.
Tammy:I like to, and by that time it was dark, so you couldn't see, you couldn't
Tammy:really navigate around too much.
Tammy:But there were so many people seeing Billy Idle, I'm like, oh, I can't
Tammy:even get anywhere near the stage.
Tammy:no, not even remotely.
Tammy:Like I was a football field away, I think.
Tammy:But he was doing phenomenal.
Tammy:Steve Stevens was killing it.
Tammy:as he does on guitar.
Tammy:A large part of that show was him.
Tammy:and just, phenomenal.
Tammy:But it was really cute.
Tammy:Billy Idol's, granddaughter Poppy was there at the side of the stage and it was
Tammy:her birthday, so we all got Oh, sweet.
Tammy:Happy birthday to Poppy.
Tammy:It was super cute.
Tammy:I'm so glad.
Tammy:Like I, I saw that part cuz he posts.
Tammy:About her quite a bit on, on Instagram and stuff.
Tammy:So it was Billy o Show was great.
Tammy:And, they perform a lot.
Tammy:He, they, they're still out there performing, so it's a well-oiled machine.
Tammy:I don't want, I don't want that to sound, like whatever.
Tammy:I don't want it to sound like, oh, it was just a, you know, the point
Tammy:is that the production was great.
Tammy:they're just great.
Tammy:you can tell it's like a few of the bands like, and Motion.
Tammy:I'm not sure how many times they performed in recent years.
Tammy:it wasn't a well held ma I'm not saying they were bad, it just
Tammy:wasn't, I don't know how much they're out there performing.
Tammy:Whereas you can tell Billy Idol that's a show, they're doing this.
Tammy:It wasn't just a reunion.
Tammy:He sounds they, you know, it's, it's, it's just different.
Kim:Awesome.
Kim:And we have that, a clip of that, performance.
Kim:We have a clip of
Tammy:wealth on the, I'm sorry, I'm like a hundred miles away.
Tammy:It was the closest I can get.
Tammy:It was dark too, so I wish I had gotten closer, but I
Tammy:did catch a little bit of it.
Tammy:yeah.
Tammy:And again, catch sounds great.
Tammy:he announced his tour on Monday, so you can catch Billy Idol touring around,
Tammy:I think North America this summer.
Tammy:catch a show is always great.
Kim:Awesome, awesome.
Kim:despite all the extra, mother Nature Dealing, accrual, cruel Blow, it
Kim:sounds like you had fun with the bands that you're able to see.
Kim:I know you, you really wanted to catch Gary, so I'm, I know
Kim:you were super excited to see
Tammy:him.
Tammy:Yeah, so the, the last one after Billy Idol, Iggy.
Tammy:I heard Iggy Pop starting, so that was about the point where my
Tammy:body was like, yeah, you're done.
Tammy:So I moved away from Billy Idol and toward Iggy Pop, and so I was in
Tammy:the middle, facing Iggy Pop watching that, and, when everything went down.
Tammy:But what I saw of Iggy Pop in the beginning, the, I made a few notes.
Tammy:I, I brought my notebook.
Tammy:I'm a geek, so I brought my notebook with me.
Tammy:But, some of the notes that I made about Iggy is he's, he, I've seen
Tammy:him before and he's just masterful.
Tammy:He's a masterful performer, still at 76, and he is hobbling around the stage.
Tammy:No shirt on.
Tammy:He never wears a freaking shirt his entire life.
Tammy:And he's great.
Tammy:There's something about him that is still such a great performer.
Tammy:He still sounds great, but there's something about his performance and
Tammy:the musicians that he surrounds himself with on stage are always phenomenal.
Tammy:I've seen him perform with Josh Hammi from Queensland Stone Age, as his
Tammy:backing band, which by the way, Josh Hammi, I believe, was on the side of
Tammy:the stage because his son, his younger son, Iggy, pulled out on stage and his,
Tammy:I don't know how old his son is now, maybe six, I'm guessing five, six maybe.
Tammy:Yeah, I'm guessing around that age.
Tammy:Maybe he's a little older now, but he was doing this little dance on stage
Tammy:and everyone was like, who is that kid?
Tammy:Why did Amy bring this kid on stage?
Tammy:And that was right before.
Tammy:The festival shut down.
Tammy:And then I was like, what is that Josh Hammis kid?
Tammy:and then I looked online and sure enough, he, that it was his kid.
Tammy:Josh Hammi was there at some point, but he's just masterful is so high energy.
Tammy:Whenever I've seen anybody perform with ae the band members are so in awe of him.
Tammy:It brings them to a new level.
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:Like they perform at their highest level when they're on state.
Tammy:I, you can just see it, the energy and the way, and the musicianship.
Tammy:It's just, it's phenomenal.
Tammy:So I got to see three songs before it got shut down.
Tammy:I think it was during.
Tammy:He was singing passenger, the passenger.
Tammy:and Josh Hammis song was, son was dancing to that.
Tammy:And I think that's when it got shut down.
Tammy:So I heard when he came back on Sunday night that he, got on stage and said, deja
Tammy:vu, I think was the first thing he said.
Tammy:And then I read that he dropped trial two or three times.
Tammy:I'm like, yes.
Tammy:Like I just love him.
Tammy:that's him.
Tammy:that's just, he's so awesome.
Tammy:one of the things he said, like he was just, and you can
Tammy:tell he's so happy to be there.
Tammy:he was just like, hello everyone.
Tammy:Hey, how are you doing?
Tammy:to the crowd.
Tammy:And he's like, and he, I remember him saying, I wrote this down.
Tammy:He was like, oh, fucking thank you everyone.
Tammy:I am so fucking happy to be here.
Tammy:he's just, And, you know, the feeling is mutual.
Tammy:Like, we're happy to, we're happy he's there too.
Tammy:So the two that I was really there to see were Gary Newman and Iggy.
Tammy:I'm bummed that it got cut short, but I'm glad that he was able to go back and, I
Tammy:wasn't a Susie disciple back in the day.
Tammy:I do love Susie and the Banes.
Tammy:I love their music.
Tammy:but I don't, in all honesty, know a lot about her.
Tammy:Didn't really follow her.
Tammy:Like the people that were there to see her, do, you know, the Susie
Tammy:to them is like Depeche mode to me.
Tammy:So that's the level of obsession and love that people were there for.
Tammy:Su and I am.
Tammy:I'm, although I wasn't able to see it on Sunday night, I'm really glad,
Tammy:I think over 20,000 people returned, which was way more than I thought.
Tammy:I didn't think there were gonna be that many people that
Tammy:were gonna be able to return.
Tammy:And there were, there was a huge crowd.
Tammy:So I'm really glad that they did, they were able to schedule that.
Tammy:I think it, that was, I think it's amazing.
Tammy:They were able to pull that off.
Tammy:I have no idea how.
Tammy:And that was
Kim:at the Rose Bowl, right?
Tammy:It's at Brookside Park next to the Rose Bowl.
Tammy:Okay.
Tammy:So it's not in the stadium.
Tammy:there would be seating in the stadium.
Tammy:it's in this huge park right next to the stadium that, that they do have
Tammy:a number of, I think concerts and festivals and that kind of thing.
Tammy:So they are accustomed to it.
Tammy:There's, I don't know why the parking isn't better organ, maybe it's up to
Tammy:each individual festival to organize the parking better, but, they really need
Tammy:a better emergency contingency plan.
Tammy:I think that was loud and clear.
Tammy:I'm sure they have learned that, and I'm sure it will be different for next year.
Tammy:I hope I would just really hope they make it into a two day festival.
Tammy:I don't know that, I don't know that I would go back again because of that,
Tammy:because of the Sure stamina that it takes.
Tammy:Unless, if it were, like, if Depeche Mode were playing, I would probably
Tammy:go, of course I would go, but I don't, it just wasn't doable to try to see
Tammy:the number of bands that I wanted to.
Tammy:it just wasn't given the stage times, the overlapping times and the, the
Tammy:square miles you have to walk to get to everything and so I, I don't know.
Tammy:I don't know if I'd go back.
Kim:it's really interesting because it's like you have these,
Kim:these I can imagine the conflict.
Kim:It's do I see A, B, C, or squeeze?
Kim:I wanna see them both.
Kim:Right.
Tammy:I know.
Tammy:And I, and then I heard, and then you have FOMO so bad because I heard how
Tammy:good Squeeze was and I'm like, damn.
Tammy:But I did see love rockets, and that
Kim:was, and they sounded amazing.
Kim:They sounded amazing.
Tammy:Good.
Tammy:Amazing.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:But I missed so, and a b, ABC and I, and I'm trying to look and see where
Tammy:I might be able to catch some of these artists out on tour this summer.
Tammy:But, it's tough to get out and see everybody that's supposed to be
Tammy:the beauty of the festival, right?
Tammy:Is getting to see, even though there's shorter sets, getting
Tammy:to see as many people at once, and it's just not really that.
Tammy:Doable.
Tammy:Unfortunately, the, they're the, it's a good problem.
Tammy:There's so many great bands.
Tammy:That's the great news, but it needs to be two days.
Tammy:In my humble opinion.
Kim:So that's Tammy's 2 cents.
Kim:Tammy's weighing and Crew world people, if you ever catch our show, make it two days.
Kim:Yes.
Kim:Get your parking together, great production, um, and
Kim:maybe work on your security.
Kim:But otherwise, you know,
Tammy:there were a lot of things they did really well.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:I, but, but those two things are pretty significant.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:the security thing is a big issue.
Tammy:and again, I just think it was the sheer number of people,
Tammy:which again, is a good thing.
Tammy:You, the interest is there.
Tammy:Right.
Tammy:The people wanna see it.
Tammy:The people wanna go.
Tammy:The goth people and the Gen X people want to go and in that way, like
Tammy:then make it to, you know, make it.
Tammy:You can go the Gen X track and you can see ABC and Squeeze and
Tammy:all of these, or the Fullon goth track, but overlapping the two.
Tammy:Cuz I thought about that.
Tammy:I've been thinking about that the last couple days.
Tammy:Like retracing in my steps of, well, okay, now that I know what I
Tammy:know, would I do it differently In terms of the bands that I would see?
Tammy:I'm like, no.
Tammy:Cuz I was there to see the, I couldn't have, if I were there, if I went to
Tammy:Squeeze and ABC and Human League, we didn't even talk about Human League.
Tammy:I heard Human League was phenomenal.
Tammy:People were staying online.
Tammy:Like before they got shut down they were killing it.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:I read that Human League if, you know, out, out touring, I'm
Tammy:gonna try to go see 'em too.
Tammy:I don't know if I can get to 'em.
Tammy:I'm not even sure what their touring is like this summer, but, so if I just went.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:Human League, abc, let's see, modern English.
Tammy:I didn't even talk about that.
Tammy:Wow.
Tammy:They were there too early on in the day.
Tammy:I saw them last year, so that's why I was like, all right, I
Tammy:can cross 'em off the list.
Tammy:Cause I just saw them not too long ago, but they were there.
Tammy:So I could've gone that track, but then I would've missed Gary Newman.
Tammy:I would've missed Iggy.
Tammy:I would've missed loving rockets.
Tammy:I would've.
Tammy:So you really had to make a choice.
Tammy:a lot of people chose Billy Idol.
Tammy:yeah.
Kim:But, and you know what a good problem to have great bands.
Kim:But yeah.
Kim:Yeah.
Kim:it's a good problem to have, Yeah.
Kim:But I imagine, the numbers of it all is like, they, you know,
Kim:probably didn't make obviously the same kind of money every two days.
Tammy:I'm sure.
Tammy:Comes down to money.
Tammy:get some more merch lines.
Tammy:You wanna make more money, get some more merch lines.
Kim:Seriously set up another tent, folks.
Kim:Do it.
Tammy:Oh goodness.
Tammy:Or make it available online.
Tammy:Or make it available online.
Tammy:This is a problem for all concerts.
Tammy:I've been like, Depeche Mode, I, we talked about the hour wait, that I waited in
Tammy:line for an hour for Depeche Mode merch and missed the first band entirely,
Tammy:which I, you know, that was cool.
Tammy:I was happy to do, but now I'm starting to see a bigger problem,
Tammy:like, why don't we pre-order merch and pick it up when we're there.
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:You know, like if you don't wanna do the shipping and mailing thing, because
Tammy:Cruel World did a bit of that, I think there was a pickup for some people, like
Tammy:in v i p, like a certain kind of ticket.
Tammy:You could stand in a shorter line and just go pick up mer.
Tammy:I don't know how it worked, but there's gotta be something better
Tammy:than standing in line for two hours and missing music to buy a T-shirt.
Tammy:Don't we have a better system by now?
Tammy:We can't.
Tammy:We can't streamline this any better.
Tammy:Let's do better.
Kim:Let's do better.
Kim:Pull it together people.
Kim:Yes.
Kim:So Tammy
Tammy:says, so please.
Tammy:Oh, I am sure.
Tammy:I wouldn't be the only one either.
Tammy:Please.
Tammy:But
Kim:you know what?
Kim:I get the impression though, that it also create, it goes along
Kim:with the whole concert experience.
Kim:Oh my God.
Kim:We're waiting online.
Kim:I think they, I think they kinda lean into that and, oh my God, what's that line?
Kim:You know what I mean?
Tammy:I agree.
Tammy:But two hours is excessive.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:Oh, Yes.
Tammy:Create the demand.
Tammy:Create the line.
Tammy:That's part of the experience.
Tammy:Two hours, two hours.
Tammy:Over two hours.
Tammy:Come on in the heat wearing all black for God's sake.
Kim:Like really cruel world.
Kim:Come on.
Kim:lighten this theme up a little bit,
Tammy:right?
Tammy:Maybe that was the point.
Tammy:It was cruel.
Tammy:Maybe all of this was the point.
Tammy:It was supposed to be cruel.
Tammy:I'm having an epiphany right now.
Tammy:Like that fire
Kim:festival, it was supposed
Tammy:to be this way.
Tammy:It was supposed to torturer us.
Tammy:I'm starting to see it now.
Tammy:How bad do you wanna
Kim:be here?
Kim:Yes.
Kim:Tammy, I'm so glad that you made it so we can get that, that firsthand.
Kim:Uh, Reenactment, uh, recount, whatever the word is of that experience, hearing
Kim:the painful steps that you took.
Kim:And I'm so glad you're able to see, you know, the axis.
Kim:Literally see the painful steps.
Kim:Literally the painful, yeah.
Kim:Soaking your feet in ebbs and salts afterwards.
Kim:I know it was worth it.
Kim:And, um, what a, what a crazy bunch of circumstances.
Kim:I'm just glad that no one was injured or hurt or anything along those lines.
Tammy:me too.
Tammy:Me too.
Tammy:Yeah,
Kim:because it could have been worse, with people.
Kim:That's what I mean,
Tammy:stampeding, it could have been so much.
Tammy:And that's, this is a good thing too.
Tammy:There were no riots.
Tammy:There was no stampede.
Tammy:There was no panic.
Tammy:There was no probably cuz people didn't really, but imagine
Tammy:if it were something else.
Tammy:Yeah.
Tammy:And if there were an actual panic, the crowd was great.
Tammy:There was no, I didn't And all doing it for that matter.
Tammy:Didn't see any fighting, didn't, there were no mosh pits.
Tammy:This is go, this is an heavy metal.
Tammy:it was, it was overall it was a good crowd.
Tammy:it was a good vibe.
Tammy:It was.
Tammy:It, you know, it was, it was, it was pretty chill, Goff low key.
Tammy:But, so in that respect, it was good.
Tammy:and thank God no one was hurt and the storm didn't roll in and
Tammy:nobody got struck by lightning.
Tammy:And there, I mean there are a lot of good things there.
Tammy:There are a lot of great things that came outta the day.
Tammy:Awesome.
Tammy:Some learning
Kim:as well.
Kim:Remember folks pack your ben gay and your portable walker and
Tammy:yeah.
Tammy:If I do go, if I, if there is another one next year and if I do go
Tammy:there will be a different strategy.
Tammy:I can say
Kim:that for sure, I have to say hat off to you for taking a
Kim:picture of where your car parked.
Kim:I have never done that and that's such a great thing to do.
Tammy:I did it at the airport too, and thank God.
Tammy:Cause I parked in a new airport spot and I took, oh, I'm just,
Tammy:I gotta pat myself on the back.
Tammy:I don't know how I did it, because I was so scattered just trying to, get there.
Tammy:I couldn't think so I'm just like, I'm just gonna have to take a, I
Tammy:took a photo of the spot, I took a photo of the level, the garage.
Tammy:I had to take a tram.
Tammy:When I got off the tram, I took a photo of where the tram got off.
Tammy:I took photos every, that's the first time I've really ever done that.
Tammy:And thank God, because I was dead, coming back the next morning.
Tammy:Dead tired, no idea where I parked, what I did.
Tammy:Limping through the airport to get to my car the next morning.
Tammy:And thank God I was just like, oh, look at these photos.
Tammy:I took genius.
Tammy:And it was just cause I was completely stressed and outta my
Tammy:mind and it was early in the morning and my brain hadn't kicked in.
Tammy:So that's the only reason I didn't really give it a lot of thought.
Tammy:It was more of survival.
Tammy:But tips for anyone take a photo of where you park.
Tammy:It comes, or some people were saying drop a pin.
Tammy:Mm-hmm.
Tammy:I don't really know how to, I, I'm not a, you know, I don't know that, well,
Tammy:I guess it would've helped me, but Kind of a photo person that helped me better.
Kim:No, that's awesome.
Kim:that's just great advice.
Kim:Cause I've never done that.
Kim:I'm, you know, when I park, I'm like, I'm 4g.
Kim:What can I for Gar, you know, I'm trying to put some association with him.
Kim:either write it down, grow or take a picture, make it simple.
Kim:Keep it simple, folks.
Kim:and that's a great strategy.
Kim:And maybe you had some instinct of, you know, what, this day
Kim:might, be a little hectic.
Kim:You know what I'm saying?
Tammy:yeah, I, yeah.
Tammy:Thank you instincts, because I must have something else took over, especially
Tammy:when the sound cut out for Iggy.
